Before choosing the equipment
For a renovation, establish floor build-up and access before selecting a system. For a new build, coordinate tubing zones and manifold locations with the architectural and structural plans.
What belongs in the quote
Ask for room-by-room design information, floor-finish compatibility and photographs or records of tubing positions before concealment. Include pressure testing and balancing in the handover.
Think about the surrounding system
Start with the building heat loss, available energy supply and the way warmth reaches each room. Ask whether existing ducts, piping and emitters can support the proposed equipment. A replacement is an opportunity to investigate cold rooms and noisy operation rather than simply copying the old nameplate.
Three questions for your contractor
- How does the floor finish affect output?
- Where are the manifolds accessible?
- What testing occurs before the floor is closed?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
