Before choosing the equipment
Ask whether existing radiators or other emitters can meet room loads at the proposed water temperatures. Include vent routing, condensate disposal, piping changes and control sequencing in the scope.
What belongs in the quote
Request the design temperatures, equipment schedule and commissioning record. Make responsibility for water treatment, system cleaning and future servicing explicit.
Think about the surrounding system
Start with the building heat loss, available energy supply and the way warmth reaches each room. Ask whether existing ducts, piping and emitters can support the proposed equipment. A replacement is an opportunity to investigate cold rooms and noisy operation rather than simply copying the old nameplate.
Three questions for your contractor
- What water temperatures does the design require?
- Which emitters or piping need changes?
- How will condensate and venting be handled?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
