Before choosing the equipment
Record the existing emitters, zones and cold-room complaints. Ask for an electrical capacity assessment and compare an air-to-water heat pump where it is practical for the building.
What belongs in the quote
Confirm pump, control and electrical work in writing. Request an explanation of how the boiler stages its output and how each zone will be tested.
Think about the surrounding system
Start with the building heat loss, available energy supply and the way warmth reaches each room. Ask whether existing ducts, piping and emitters can support the proposed equipment. A replacement is an opportunity to investigate cold rooms and noisy operation rather than simply copying the old nameplate.
Three questions for your contractor
- What electrical capacity is required?
- Can the existing emitters be retained?
- How were running costs estimated?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
