Before choosing the equipment
Ask the contractor to investigate return-air restrictions and uneven room temperatures before specifying a replacement. Include venting, condensate where applicable, thermostat compatibility and removal of the old appliance in the proposal.
What belongs in the quote
Request the load calculation, matched model numbers and recorded startup checks. Confirm who arranges inspections and explains filter access.
Think about the surrounding system
Start with the building heat loss, available energy supply and the way warmth reaches each room. Ask whether existing ducts, piping and emitters can support the proposed equipment. A replacement is an opportunity to investigate cold rooms and noisy operation rather than simply copying the old nameplate.
Three questions for your contractor
- How was the heating size selected?
- Which duct changes are included?
- What venting and drainage work is required?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
