Before choosing the equipment
Describe peak hot-water use and the existing boiler. Ask how tank recovery, boiler capacity and domestic-water priority will interact with space heating.
What belongs in the quote
Request the tank and control selection, connection scope and commissioning plan. Clarify service responsibility for both the tank and its heat source.
Think about the surrounding system
Bring the number of users, simultaneous fixtures and any commercial process demand. Ask for a sizing explanation, available energy options and a complete connection scope. The proposal should address placement, service access, drainage and coordination with the plumbing contractor, not just the heater itself.
Three questions for your contractor
- Can the boiler support the proposed recovery demand?
- How is hot-water priority controlled?
- What piping and controls are included?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
