Before choosing the equipment
List the type of ice needed, busiest service periods and available installation space. Ask about room conditions, water quality and the proposed condenser arrangement.
What belongs in the quote
Specify filtration or treatment if required, drain arrangements, commissioning and cleaning responsibilities. Confirm that the storage bin and dispensing setup fit the operation.
Think about the surrounding system
Describe the product being stored, temperature requirements, loading patterns and hours of operation. Ask how the design accounts for stock arriving warm, frequent door openings and heat released into surrounding areas. Establish alarm responsibility and an outage plan before the equipment goes into service.
Three questions for your contractor
- What peak demand and storage were assumed?
- What water treatment is specified?
- Who handles routine cleaning and sanitation?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
