Before choosing the equipment
Inventory current equipment, protocols and access arrangements. Define who needs alarms, what trends matter and which functions should remain available if a network connection fails.
What belongs in the quote
Require owner credentials, backups, point lists and sequence documentation. Clarify licensing, remote access, cybersecurity responsibilities and the cost of future changes.
Think about the surrounding system
Control and distribution projects need a clear description of the equipment they serve. Document current comfort problems, operating schedules and access arrangements. Ask for settings, balancing results, diagrams and administrator access at handover so the building can be operated without depending on an unexplained configuration.
Three questions for your contractor
- Who owns administrator access and backups?
- Which alarms reach a responsible person?
- What support or licence charges continue?
Prepare a useful first conversation
Bring the site location, building use, equipment model details and photographs of accessible equipment. Describe the problem or planned change and any access or shutdown constraints. Ask the contractor to identify design assumptions, excluded work, required approvals and who will commission the finished system.
